Position Title: Part Time Carousel Operator (15 hours per week)

Reports To: Theater & Rentals Manager  

Status: On-call, non-exempt, non-benefitted

Pay rate:  $20.00 per hour


Organizational Description

The Children’s Creativity Museum is a hands-on multimedia art and technology experience designed to build creative confidence. Our mission is to nurture creativity and collaboration in all children and families. We believe that creative expression, innovation and critical thinking are core to fostering the next generation.

Position Description 

Carousel Operators are trusted with the safety of guests and the operation of the historic LeRoy King Carousel. Operators work in and out of a glass structure that is exposed to the environment.

Position is Part Time, Saturday and Sunday, with occasional weekday and evening shifts.  


Principal Responsibilities

  • Daily safety inspection of the Carousel
  • Communication with Management and Engineering regarding safety concerns.
  • Provide excellent customer service while conducting ticket and merchandise sales.
  • Manage and control groups as they board, ride and off-board the Carousel.
  • Frequent use of the Public Address system for Carousel announcements.
  • Monitor riders and machinery, employing emergency stops when needed. Direct guests and staff in the event of an emergency 
  • Respond to accidents and injuries with basic First Aid and CPR training. 
  • Enforce policies, including safety, health, and fire code compliance.
  • Assist with ADA accessibility needs.
  • Manage and reconcile a daily cash drawer. 
  • Interface with Yerba Buena Gardens management for security and engineering issues 
  • Complete and file event reports 
  • Light cleaning duties, including the use of common solvents and metal polish.
  • Adhere to all Covid-19 protocols

  • Must be flexible, proactive and able to work with little or no supervision
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  

The ideal candidate will possess all of the above minimum qualifications, as well as the ability to bring creativity and flexibility to problem solving and a dedication to working in a non-profit, educational, arts environment. In addition, we seek enthusiastic team players who are highly self-directed, forward thinking, and detail-oriented. Must have weekend availability.
