Weaving: Repurposing & Reimagining

Artist of the Month Callen Zimmerman returns to demonstrate a series of weaving exercises while sharing textile traditions and future applications. Learn several techniques and take home an educational zine about the history of weaving!

FEATURED ARTIST: Callen Zimmerman currently works for the Museum of Craft and Folk Art as an education program facilitator.  She has studied at School of the Art Institute in Chicago, California College of the Arts and recently received a BFA in Textiles and Anthropology at the Savannah College of Art and Design.  Her experience teaching art has been multi-faceted; from teaching art therapy, Art Education courses as well as teaching for Communities Rising in Tamil Nadu India.  Callen has studied abroad in Southern France, Cambodia and Thailand, while experiencing working with; Kikuo Morimoto at the Institute for Khmer Traditional Textiles, Li Edelkoort and Prelle Textile in Paris, Le Art Bleu in Morocco and several women’s cooperatives in Rural Southern India among others. She perpetually pursues her artwork/ social practice work and is preparing to attend Graduate School in the near future to further her studies.
