DATE AND TIME

April 25, 2018
10:00 AM - 04:00 PM

DESCRIPTION

Homeschool families are invited to the Children’s Creativity Museum on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 for special workshops, activities, and to enjoy our regular museum exhibits. Parents and caregivers of students ages 3-14 are welcome to drop off their child in the workshop while they explore the museum with other children or accompany a younger child in the Junior Scientist workshop.

Visit our homeschool family lounge from 11am-3pm for a private eating and resting area, and challenge yourself to build and test a hovercraft in our wind tunnel!

The museum will be offering three workshops specifically for homeschool families. See and register below:

JUNIOR SCIENTISTS (Ages 3-7) | 10am-11am

This workshop focuses on introducing students to the scientific method using the non-Newtonian fluid oobleck. Through hands-on experiments, observations and group discussions, museum educators facilitate an interactive workshop that brings out children's inner scientists! They are introduced to new vocabulary; work together to mix and explore their own oobleck; get their hands dirty with experiments that help them understand its solid/liquid properties; and end with an Oobleck Freeze Dance Party!

Available: 10am - 11am
Duration:
 1 hour
Ages:
3-7
Group Size:
30 max (children and caregivers)
Cost: $20 per student, $13 per adult (price includes admission)

CLAY ANIMATION (Ages 8-14) | 10am-12pm

In this project-based workshop, students learn the basics of stop-motion animation. After designing their own clay characters, students collaborate in groups to produce a short animated film using multimedia tools.

Students work together to develop a story concept, sculpt clay characters, and film a stop-motion animation movie. Clay Animation can be adapted to almost any classroom curriculum and provides an enjoyable learning platform to explore a wide array of topics. For example, students can animate a scene from a play or novel, represent a scene from history, or illustrate a scientific discovery. This engaging field trip cultivates creative expression, communication, and teamwork skills, resulting in unique clay animation movies that students can take home and share.

Available: 10am - 12pm
Duration:
2 hours
Ages:
8-14
Group Size:
36 students max (parents may "drop off" their child in the program, but they need to remain in the building)
Take Away: Links to download students' movies will be emailed
Cost: $20 per student, $13 per adult (price includes admission)

ROBOT CODING (Ages 9-14) | 10am-12pm

In this two-hour workshop, students are introduced to computer programming using Blockly, a drag-and-drop visual programming tool, and robots from Wonder Workshop. Students collaborate in small groups to complete coding challenges while creating and navigating their own maze. More experienced coders can program robots to respond to sensor inputs and use loops to avoid obstacles. Multiple programming concepts are taught through fun and easy-to-understand activities, giving students creative ways to explore robot coding.

Available: 10am - 12pm
Duration:
2 hours
Ages:
 9-14
Group Size:
32 students max (parents may "drop off" their child in the program, but they need to remain in the building)
