DESCRIPTION

Wednesday, May 23, 2018  |  10:00am-4:00pm  |  Ages  3-14

Homeschool families are invited to the museum for special workshops, activities, and to enjoy our regular exhibits. Parents and caregivers of students ages 3-14 are welcome to drop off their child in the workshop while they explore the museum with other children or accompany a younger child in the Junior Scientist workshop.

Plus, visit our homeschool family lounge from 11am-3pm for a private eating and resting area, and challenge yourself to build and test a hovercraft in our wind tunnel!

We are offering two workshops specifically for homeschool families. See and register below:

JUNIOR SCIENTISTS (Ages 3-7) | 1:15pm-2:15pm

This workshop focuses on introducing students to the scientific method using the non-Newtonian fluid oobleck. Through hands-on experiments, observations and group discussions, museum educators facilitate an interactive workshop that brings out children's inner scientists! They are introduced to new vocabulary; work together to mix and explore their own oobleck; get their hands dirty with experiments that help them understand its solid/liquid properties; and end with an Oobleck Freeze Dance Party!

Available: 1:15pm - 2:15pm
Duration:
 1 hour
Ages:
3-7
Group Size:
30 max (children and caregivers)
Cost: $20 per student, non-member and $16 per student, museum member
$13 per adult, nonmember and $10.40 per adult, museum member
(price includes admission)

CLAY ANIMATION (Ages 8-14) | 12:15pm-2:15pm

In this project-based workshop, students learn the basics of stop-motion animation. After designing their own clay characters, students collaborate in groups to produce a short animated film using multimedia tools.

Students work together to develop a story concept, sculpt clay characters, and film a stop-motion animation movie. Clay Animation can be adapted to almost any classroom curriculum and provides an enjoyable learning platform to explore a wide array of topics. For example, students can animate a scene from a play or novel, represent a scene from history, or illustrate a scientific discovery. This engaging field trip cultivates creative expression, communication, and teamwork skills, resulting in unique clay animation movies that students can take home and share.

Available: 12:15pm - 2:15pm

2 hours
