PART-TIME VISITOR SERVICES ASSOCIATE

Reports to: Visitor Services Manager
Status:  Part-Time (22.5-25.0 hours), non-exempt, benefited, and "at will"
Schedule: Flexible and includes weekends and holidays

Organizational Description:
The Children’s Creativity Museum is a hands-on, multimedia arts and technology experience designed to build creative confidence. Our mission is to nurture creativity and collaboration in children and families. We believe that creative expression, innovation and critical thinking are core to fostering the next generation.

Position Description:
A Visitor Services Associate (Visi) is the friendly face of CCM and plays a key role in fashioning the experience of a visitor, especially a first-time visitor. CCM’s goal is to provide a responsible, safe, stress-free, and creative experience for all visitors and Visi is a key player in this goal. A Visi associate should recognize the importance of the visitor and treat them like they are a valued and expected guest.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the front desk receptionist, including, but not limited to, answering the phone and transferring calls as appropriate, receiving and distributing packages and mail, and answering emails and phone messages within the same business day.
  • Serve as point person for the museum in terms of answering questions about the museum, the historic carousel, and YBCG, and general visitor questions.
  • Sell admission tickets, memberships, process reservations and collect donations.
  • Understand cash register operations and proper cash handling, and opening/closing procedures; redeem discount passes, Discover & Go, and track Museums for All and Blue Star Families admissions.
  • Develop proficiency with ticketing system, and other museum software
  • Make suggestions as to the appropriateness of exhibits for the children in each party and accurately educate guests on CCM programming.
  • Enforce museum policies especially regarding children remaining with parents and the unaccompanied adult policy.
  • Greet and check in field trips, workshop participants, birthday parties and other groups.
  • Inform visitors about benefits of membership.
  • Respond to first aid situations calmly and responsibly. Call your supervisor when someone is hurt in the museum; be aware of appropriate reporting procedures.
  • Become familiar with CCM evacuation procedures and assist in an emergency.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the front desk area and lobby, including, but not limited to, eliminating clutter, maintaining merchandise displays, maintaining the brochure display area, sweeping the carpet, and picking up paper on the floor.
  • Engage with guests by opening doors for them, and helping with stroller parking; point out cubbies, coat rack, vending machines, water fountains, bathrooms; come out from behind the desk frequently to assess the front area and assist guests.
  • Visit each exhibit area and become familiar with the programming and goal of activities.
  • Report building/guest/janitorial issues to the Visi manager promptly
  • Manage lost & found, keeping the area clean and neat; donate items in a timely manner.
  • Follow all CCM safety procedures, including proper food storage at all times, and procedure for loaning the CCM wheelchair to guests.
  • Observe CCM’S dress code at all times; refrain from eating on the floor, and do not use cell phones while working on the floor.
  • Ensure strollers do not block doors; assist people with appropriate stroller parking areas.
  • Assist the birthday party coordinator with parties on an as-needed basis and assist the Visi manager with projects as needed.
  • Attend all morning meetings and bi-monthly staff meetings.
  • Assist education with projects on a daily basis at the direction of your manager.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of retail merchandise; use suggestive selling techniques.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Schedule flexibility regarding hours; availability to work weekends, holidays and occasional evening shifts.
  • Must love working with children and their families and caregivers.
  • Ability to bend, squat, and lift up to 50lbs.
  • High School Diploma; some college coursework
  • Be able to operate a computer and work with multiple technologies
  • Exceptional customer service experience.
  • Stand for extended periods of time.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Fun, outgoing, self-motivated and creative problem solver.
  • College degree desired, but not required.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Strong phone and email etiquette.
  • Fluency in a language other than English desired, but not required.

MARKETING ASSOCIATE

Reports to: Director of External Affairs
Status:  Full-time (30+ hours), regular, non-exempt, benefited, hourly and at-will

Organizational Description:

The Children’s Creativity Museum is a hands-on arts and technology experience for kids.  Our mission is to nurture creativity and collaboration in all children and families.  We believe creative expression, innovation, and critical thinking are core to fostering the next generation.

Our museum is located in the heart of San Francisco with a target audience of families with children aged 2 – 12.  Last year we served over 100,000 visitors to the museum, the Creativity Theater and through schools and camps.

Position Description:

We are seeking a tech-savvy idealist who will support all aspects of marketing with an emphasis on digital marketing and community engagement. This is a growth opportunity for someone interested in marketing and business practices related to a non-profit museum.  We are looking for someone who embraces our philosophy to be creative and collaborative in their work and human interactions.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with all departments to create compelling content, based on our stories and brand, for multiple social media channels
  • Draft and manage email campaigns: monthly newsletter and targeted email campaigns
  • Maintain website copy: programs, calendar, images etc.
  • Analyze effectiveness of current marketing initiatives to inform and improve future campaigns
  • Monitor social media, Google AdWords and Google Analytics
  • Represent museum at off-site programs and events; e.g. Shared Schoolyard, Kids to Work Days, fairs and festivals.
  • Interface with tourist serving venues; e.g. visit hotels and cultivate concierge referrals.
  • Conduct outreach to schools and student-serving organizations regarding field trips, group visits, and other programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Tech savvy: familiar with general marketing platforms and current trends
  • Experience with Google Analytics, Google AdWords and WordPress
  • Writing and/or graphic skills
  • Curious about all aspects of the museum and is not shy to approach team members across departments
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Strong PC skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications, and desire and ability to learn new software
  • Schedule flexibility including hours and weekend days. Weekend days between 2-4 per month
  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness

  • Experience and/or degree in marketing, communications or related field
  • Valid Driver’s License

Bonus Qualifications

  • Graphic design experience using Adobe Suite

RENTALS TECHNICIAN

Position Title: Rentals Technician

Reports To: Theater & Rentals Manager

Status: Full Time, flex hours, non-exempt, at will 

 

Position Description:

The Rentals Technician is a supportive, full-time (37.5- 40 hours), flexible schedule position responsible for providing a/v, lighting and sound services in the 200-seat proscenium Creativity Theater, and in support of events in the Children’s Creativity Museum.  Duties are technical in nature, require considerable physical activity, and require normal attention to prevent errors. 

 

Principal Responsibilities:

Under general direction of the Theater and Rentals Manager, provide technical services for the Children’s Creativity Museum and Creativity Theater as needed.

·         Run A/V and sound for a variety of performance types including music, dance and theater, as well as presentation/lecture formats with a/v and projection needs.

·         Technical services include, but are not limited to, setting up, monitoring and striking audio-visual equipment, theatrical sound and lighting, rigging, dimmers, draperies, etc.

·         Organization and management of theater inventory and equipment.

·         Enforcement of safety procedures and protection of company assets and equipment.

·         Ability to work with client’s professional production crews, balancing customer service with the safe operation of the Creativity Theater.

·         In collaboration with the Theater and Rentals Manager, develops and carries out a working list of theater and museum facilities maintenance issues.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years technical production experience in a professional theater setting or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Background in production, fabrication, and/or facilities maintenance
  • Demonstrated understanding of rigging, lighting, scenic painting, carpentry, and other technical aspects of production that affect design & implementation required.
  • Demonstrated manual dexterity and proficiency in the repair of equipment desired.
  • Working knowledge of A/V equipment, and electrical wiring.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, must be able to lift 50 pounds and climb ladders.
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and diplomacy skills for relationships with theater rental clients and other CCM Staff.
  • A customer service orientation, willing to work with a broad range of theater clients from corporate to small non-profits with varying technical needs.
  • Ability to interpret working drawings and light plots.
  • Proficient and knowledgeable in both Mac and PC including computer imaging programs, cueing systems, and Microsoft Office.

The ideal candidate will possess all of the above minimum qualifications, as well as the ability to bring creativity and flexibility to problem solving and a dedication to working in a non-profit, educational, arts environment for youth.  In addition, we seek enthusiastic team players who are highly self-directed, forward thinking, and detail-oriented. MUST have evening and weekend availability.

VOLUNTEER

Join the Children’s Creativity Museum volunteer team! As a volunteer, you’ll go behind the scenes of San Francisco’s 21st-Century arts and technology museum to assist our staff in various departments. Remember, you don’t have to be an expert in art or technology; each of our volunteers has a different background and skill set.

Volunteer positions vary depending on current exhibitions and programs. You can always start out in one position and change when appropriate.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

EDUCATION VOLUNTEER

Status: Unpaid volunteer position
Times Available: Wednesday - Sunday, 9:30am - 4:30pm, 11:00am - 3:00pm, or 1:30pm - 4:30pm
Expected Commitment: Two shifts per month for one year

Position Description: The Education Volunteer is responsible for ensuring our exhibits (Imagination Lab, Innovation Lab, Tech Lab, Animation Studio and Music Studio) run smoothly while creating meaningful experiences with children and families.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet visitors to each space and explain how to get started.
  • Assist and facilitate activities in each of our spaces and check in with visitors for help and support.
  • Direct visitors to different spaces.
  • Reset and tidy up each space - pick up paper, keep supplies filled and reset stations.
  • Alert managers and staff to any immediate needs.

EARLY CHILDHOOD VOLUNTEER (long-term)

Status: Unpaid volunteer position
Times Available: Thursdays, 9:30am - 1:30pm or 9:30am - 4:30pm
Expected Commitment: Minimum of four shifts per month for six months starting September 1, 2017

Position Description: The Early Childhood Volunteer is responsible for ensuring our visitors are having a rich and meaningful experience by engaging our visitors and assisting in early childhood programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet visitors in Imagination Lab
  • Assist and facilitate activities in our Imagination lab including Snap-It making, stop-motion animations, DIY art projects, practicing literacy skills while reading to and with children, encouraging puppet play, and more.
  • Help engage visitors during our drop-in early childhood programs
  • Incorporating CCM's educational philosophy and mission into conversations with visitors.
  • Direct visitors to different spaces and inform them of our museum policies.
  • Reset and tidy up each space - pick up paper, keep supplies stocked, and reset stations.
  • Alert managers and staff to any immediate needs.
