DIY Artist of the Month – January 2012

Abstract Drawing Action

In this workshop, facilitated by DIY Featured Artist Megan Leppla, children will explore ways to translate sound into color and line. Listening to different types of music, participants will create abstract images to represent the sounds they are hearing.

Saturday, January 14 and 28, 11:00am to 3:00pm

FEATURED ARTIST: Megan Leppla is an art maker and educator currently based in San Francisco, CA. Her interest in art began with photography and has since grown to encompass two-dimensional art more broadly. A fascination with the camera’s ability to record has inspired her to create art that illustrates re-imagined memories. Before moving to San Francisco, Megan worked as an arts educator with students of varying ages and special needs for several non-profit organizations in Oregon, South Carolina, and Florida. Megan spent six months as an artist in residence in rural South Carolina, and she is currently working on a body of work that documents the transition from the rural south to the urban west. She graduated with a BA from the University of South Florida’s College of the Arts, and spent time studying abroad in Paris, France. By sharing her passion for art making she hopes to inspire and foster creativity among youth, especially those at-risk and post-risk, in a way that empowers them to accomplish great things.
