Letter From Our Executive Director
Greetings!
From the time I joined the Children’s Creativity Museum (then Zeum) nearly nine years ago, I have been excited about turning one of San Francisco’s best-kept secrets into a recognized top destination for youth and families of all ages. It’s incredibly gratifying to take our boldest step yet towards realizing that vision with the launch of our new name, new identity, and new offerings for a broader audience.
I’m exceedingly proud of the work that has been done behind the scenes to reflect on who we are, what we do best, and the impact we want to make on the families we serve, the San Francisco community and the world. We are now crystal clear that our purpose is to nurture the 21st-century skills of creativity, collaboration and communication in all youth and families. These “3 C’s” are engrained in everything we do and reflect how we treat each other and what we are committed to nurturing in each and every visitor.
We have also clearly articulated our unique educational approach and design principles that distinguish us from other institutions. We shift the conventional focus from play to invention, by inspiring visitors to imagine, create and share a unique work of art during every visit. Our rich multimedia arts and technology studios are designed to shift kids from media consumption to media production, building literacy skills that are essential for the 21st century. We also push the boundaries of traditional children’s museums which are typically geared towards the youngest visitors by providing engaging experiences for kids as young as 3 through age 12.
Finally, we have eloquently articulated our vision, which reflects the difference we want to make for our community and the rest of the world. If we are successful in accomplishing our mission there will be a paradigm shift in how we think about education. We will live in a world where creativity flourishes rather than diminishes over time, where working collaboratively as families, communities, and global citizens enables us to embrace solutions that are holistic, rather than individualistic, and where communication is a dynamic and powerful tool for exchanging ideas, perspectives and beliefs that lead to a deep appreciation for the unique contribution every person makes to our world.
Here’s to the bright and vibrant future that we will all create together!
Warmest regards,

Audrey Yamamoto
Executive Director
